Church Covenant

A covenant is a statement that sums up who we are, and outlines our responsibilities and privileges as members of our congregation as a part of the greater Body of Christ around the world. We at FBC Pedricktown use it to guide us and hold us accountable as a church and as families and individuals who love Jesus, and who seek to be obedient to God’s word. Have any questions? Feel free to ask!

Having received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, having been baptized and being in agreement with the mission and doctrine of this church body, I now commit myself to God and the other members of the First Baptist Church at Pedricktown and pledge to do the following:

I will serve the Church, my community and the world

By using all of the spiritual gifts which God has given to me (I Peter 4:10)
By giving regularly and cheerfully to support the ministry of the Church (1 Corinthians 16:2)
By developing a servant’s heart (Philippians 2:3-7)

I will share in the witness of the Church

By praying for its growth (I Thessalonians 1:2-3)
By inviting un-churched persons to attend this Church (Luke 14:23)
By warmly welcoming persons who visit the Church (Romans 12:13)
By presenting a positive Christian example at all times (Philippians 1:22)

I will protect the unity of this Church

By acting in love toward other members of the Church (I Peter 1:22)
By encouraging and building up other members of the Church (Ephesians 4:29)
By honoring the leaders of the Church (Hebrews 13:17)
By seeking to reconcile with members of the Church who have offended me. (Colossians 3:12-14)

I will seek the spiritual transformation of myself and my family

By maintaining daily personal and family devotions (Colossians 4:2)
By educating my children in the Christian faith (Deuteronomy 4:9)
By seeking the salvation of my family members and acquaintances (Matthew 28:19)
By regularly attending worship services (Hebrews 10:25)

I will witness the love of Christ

By having compassion for those in need (Matthew 25:34-40)
By honoring my commitments (Numbers 30:2)
By dealing fairly and truthfully with other persons (Romans 12:17)

    1. As is typical for Baptist theology, our position is that since a person cannot EARN salvation, they likewise cannot LOSE it. Salvation is God’s gift of grace, wrought through the work of Jesus and the love of God.

All that said, it is natural to wonder about such things that are beyond us. And particularly regarding salvation, the scriptures talk about it in past, present, and future tenses: “By grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:5); “you are being saved” (1Corinthians 15:2); and “we will be saved” (Acts 15:11). The work of Jesus secures our salvation (past), our discipleship to Jesus “works out” our salvation (present; cf. Philippians 2:12), and the ultimate fulfillment of God’s love completes our salvation (future).
